"How can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one whom whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?" Romans 10:14
Paul was burdened for the salvation of his countrymen (9:3) and he prayed for their salvation (10:1). But he knew that in addition to burden and prayer someone had to preach the gospel to them. Salvation is as simple as calling on Jesus in faith. It's so simple that people stumble over it looking for a harder way. Yet to call on Jesus people need to hear the good news. "And how can they year without someone preaching to them?" To "preach" in this case is just to pass on the good news. It doesn't require a suit and a pulpit to be a preacher. All we need is a burden for lost people and a willingness to share with them the love of Jesus.
Father, in the words of Isaiah (Is. 6:8) I want to say to you "Here am I! Send me!"
I'm praying for you.

Pastor Mark,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the godly insight into scripture and for the inspiring word on Sunday about the Holy Spirit. I saw a picture of this very act of the Holy Spirit at the nursing home on Sunday. A resident, play the piano when inside she felt so inadequate, but with the help of the Holy Spirit she played for us beautifully. I am going to do a bible club in a low income area, this summer(I think I'm going to call it the Good News Club), because I agree with, "How can they hear without someone praching to them." These children may not ever hear about the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. So I to say, "Lord, here am I, send me!" Love in Christ Francie
