"So many gathered that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them." Mark 2:2
"Once again Jesus went out beside the lake, a large crowd came to him and he began to teach them." Mark 2:13

We may lose sight of Jesus' devotion to preaching and teaching the Word in the midst of His miracles. The communication of God's Word and people's response to it were of utmost importance in Jesus' ministry. We need to be all about hearing and responding to His Word and then about sharing His Word with others so thaty they too may respond.

Father, help me to keep Your Word primary in my life as Jesus did in His. Give me ears to hear Your word each day and teach me to respond in faith.

I'm praying for you.

  1. A few days later Jesus returns to Capernaum. When He is discovered, He is surrounded by a mass of people. Four men bring a paralytic friend to be healed by Jesus and because they can not get into the house they let their friend down through the roof. When Jesus saw their faith He told the paralytic, “Son. Your sins are forgiven.” The teachers of the law were concentrating on the forgiveness part and thinking it was blasphemy. Jesus perceived in His spirit their thinking and addressed it. “Which is easier...but that you may know that the Son of Man has authority to forgive sins...” What a lesson. I am sure they had to go off and process that awhile. This healing example should encourage us in our prayers for those who are sick. Our faith can be rewarded even though the people we are praying for don’t have faith. With two words, “Follow me,” Levi leaves his business and follows Jesus. The Pharisees are again missing the major point as Jesus reaches out to sinners at the meal Levi provided. After all, this was His mission. It was also the mission of the Pharisees but somewhere they had settled for “looking good” rather than truly helping those in need. The Pharisees continued to accuse Jesus and His disciples of breaking the law and traditions. At each point Jesus took the opportunity to teach a truth they should have known.
