The Cause and Consequence of Sin

The Consequence of Sin
"When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees."
Genesis 3:8 NLT

Sin causes us to hide from God in shame and fear. While there may be many consequences to our sin the most costly fall out is the loss of intimacy with God and of the joy that accompanies walking with God.

The Cause of Sin
"And to the man God said, 'Since you listened to your wife and ate from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat...'" Geneses 3:17 NLT

Instead of listening to God's voice (His command), Adam listened to Eve (and Eve listened to the serpent). Listening to any voice that speaks contrary to God's voice will always lead to sin and broken fellowship with God. Listening to God's voice leads to life and intimate fellowship with Him. Jesus said, "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me" (John 10:27 NIV).

Father, may I have the sense to know that life's greatest joy and fulfilment is to walk in fellowship with You. And may the pleasure of Your presence cause me to listen to and obey Your voice above every other voice.

I'm praying for you.
Pastor Mark
