Great Sin and a Great Savior

"Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners--of whom I am the worst." 1 Timothy 1:15

Would Paul have literally won a worst sinners contest? There were undoubtedly men whose deeds were worse than Paul's when judged by this world's standard. But Paul knew his own heart and the righteousness of Christ.

The heart that seems pure when looked upon by the light of this world is revealed to be stained with sin when held up to the light of Christ. Our realization of the magnificence of God's grace grows in proportion to our recognition of our own utter sinfulness apart from Christ. Then like Paul we will stand in awe of the fact that He saved us and give Him glory.

Lord Jesus, I am the worst sinner I know for I know my own heart. I thank you that you saved me and continue to pour grace on me daily. May your grace be magnified in my life that other sinners around me may be drawn to you.

I'm praying for you.

  1. "Of whom I am the worst" because MY sin put my Savior on a cross, where the full wrath of God was released because of MY sin. It's humbling and motivating at the same time. How am I working out my precious salvation?

  2. Good morning Pastor Mark,

The very first time I ever read the Bible 1Tim v.12-15 were like reading my autobiography.Paul was just like me.I could not believe what I was reading. If Christ could save Paul,I knew at that moment that salvation was available for me.What great joy entered my life that day.It was very soon afterward that I surrendered my life to Him.

Holy Father, You are mighty and merciful.Thank You for loving me enough to send Jesus to save me.Only the power of Christ's blood was able to cleanse my sinful heart. To replace the anger with love, the selfishness with servitude.I pray that You continue to search me Father and cleanse me of any darkness that I may still hide in my heart.
