"...how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!"
Matthew 7:11
God is a giver! He delights to give good gifts to His children. Does He have good laid in store for me which I have not yet received because I have not asked? "Ask and it shall be given to you... (7:7). God is willing and the invitation is open. We must avail ourselves of the oportunity and receive His good through faithful prayer.
Father, teach me to seek and revecive the good which You delight to give.
I'm praying for you.

Judgement carries a stiff penalty. Though the Word warns against judging, it is so easy in the weak moments to seek to boaster the ego or self-esteem by choosing to point out the faults of others while covering personal shortcomings. I suspect we become better at helping others when we first seek to see ourselves in need of help. Comparison with others who we consider worse than ourselves only traps us in a world of make-believe and causes us to not attend to corrections God would have for us. Matt 7:7 is one of my favorite verses. It tells me that if I keep on asking — keep on seeking — and keep on knocking — I Will See The Hand Of God working on, in and through me. All these imperatives point me to a constant, ever-renewing relationship with God. These are strong words that say don’t give up...ever. Fruit, foundation, and faith grow from obedience. Trust and obey for there is no better way.
ReplyDeleteI am certain Matthew 7:1 is perhaps one of the most mis-quoted and/or mis-interpreted verses in all of the New Testament. The nominal and/or non-Christian like to quote the verse to shield against a sinful or unrepented lifestyle, while most Christians overlook the meaning or interpretation all together. Jesus Christ is the true Judge of the hearts of all humans; yet in this scripture, I believe the caveat is the refraining from judging one another in a negatively critical, condscending and/or evil minded thoughts/intentions. For in verses 6 & 15 judgment is required of the Christian, knowing good fruit from the bad requires judgment.
